How to convert files
Spoolfield converts videos, songs and images that are already on your device. It saves a converted copy and never changes the original.
Converting is included in both plans, Lite and Pro, and in the free trial.
1. Add your files
- Switch to Convert files.
- Drop videos, songs or images onto Spoolfield, or click Choose files. You can add many at once.
2. Pick the new format
- Video
- MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.
- Audio
- MP3, M4A or WAV. A video can become audio: Spoolfield keeps just the sound.
- Image
- JPG for photos, PNG for lossless images, or WebP for small files on the web.
- When the video and audio already fit the new format, Spoolfield repackages them instead of re-encoding. Nothing is lost, and it takes seconds.
- Some files can’t become some formats, and Spoolfield skips them and tells you why. An audio file can’t become a video, a file with no sound can’t become audio, and images only convert to JPG, PNG or WebP.
3. Shrink a file to fit a size
Under File size, choose how big the copy may be:
- Original
- No size limit. Spoolfield only changes the format.
- 25 MB
- For email attachments.
- 16 MB
- For WhatsApp.
- 10 MB
- For Discord.
- Custom
- Type any size in MB.
- This works for video, audio and images. It isn’t offered for WAV, which is never compressed.
- A long video squeezed into a small size loses quality. If it can’t fit at all, Spoolfield says Can’t fit this file in that size. Choose a bigger size or a shorter clip.
4. Find the converted copy
- Click Convert. Converted files line up in the Queue, marked Your file.
- Copies are saved to your Spoolfield folder, the one under Save to. Your originals stay where they were, unchanged.
- During the free trial, each converted file counts as one of your 3 clips.
If a file won’t convert
- File not found: the file was moved, renamed or deleted after you added it. Choose it again.
- Spoolfield can’t read this file: it may be damaged or only partly downloaded.
- This file has no sound: choose a video format instead.
