Add captions or get a transcript
Burn captions that light up word by word into a whole video, or turn what’s said into text and subtitle files.
Add captions to a video
- Add your video under Your video, then choose Captions under Tool.
- Pick a Caption style: Pop, Box, Word (one big word at a time) or Clean (plain subtitles), and a Caption position.
- To caption only part of the video, fill in From (optional) and To (optional), like 0:45 and 2:10.
- You can change the Shape at the same time, for example to 9:16 for a vertical video.
- Check the price at the bottom, then press Run. You get a new video with the captions in the picture.
Get a transcript
- Add your video, then choose Transcript under Tool.
- Press Run. Spoolfield uses the site’s own captions when the video has them, and otherwise turns the speech into text on our servers.
- You get three files: a plain text file, an SRT subtitle file for video editors and players, and a JSON file with the time of every word. You can read the text right on the page.
Using the words again is free
Turning speech into text is what costs credits. Once a video has been turned into text, making captions or Shorts from the same video is free for the words while its files are kept. The price then shows Free (already turned into text) or speech to text: free again.
Good to know
- Spoolfield detects the language that’s spoken. Clear speech with little background music gives the best results.
- If nobody speaks in the video, there are no words to use, and the job stops without charging you.
