From one long video to Shorts in 3 steps
- Under Your video, paste the link to the episode or recording and click Add, or switch to Upload and drop in the file. The original can be up to 3 hours long.
- Choose Make a Short under Tool. With By topic, type what the moments are about, then set How many clips you want and the Length of each. With Pick the times, type the start and end of every clip, like 12:40 to 13:25. You can also describe the whole job in Say what you want and let Spoolfield fill in the settings.
- Check the credits in the bar at the bottom, then press Run. When the job is ready under Your jobs, play each clip right on the page and press Save to download the ones you want.

Clips come out 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok unless you switch to 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9. Crop to fill suits a single speaker in the middle of the frame, and Fit + blur keeps a wide two-person shot whole over a blurred copy of itself.

Pick Pop, Box, Word or Clean, place them at the Bottom, Middle or Top, and watch the Preview before you run. Want the clips without words on screen? Choose None under Caption style.

How long can the original video be?
Up to 3 hours, whether you paste a link or upload a file. Uploads can be up to 500 MB on Free, 2 GB on Starter and 5 GB on Creator. Links work for public videos on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest, Dailymotion and Weibo.
How many credits does it take to make Shorts from a long video?
There are two parts. Turning the speech into text costs 1 credit per minute of the whole video, and the Shorts cost 1 credit per minute you get back, with part of a minute counted as a full one. Three 30-second Shorts from a 20-minute talk come to 20 + 3 = 23 credits. You see the exact number before you press Run, and cutting more Shorts from the same video later skips the speech part while its files are kept.
What if Spoolfield can’t find my topic?
It tells you that nothing in the video talks about it. Try the words the speakers actually use, type the topic in the language the video is in, or switch to Pick the times. A job that fails doesn’t cost anything.
Can I make Shorts from someone else’s video?
Only when you own it, it’s licensed for reuse (Creative Commons, for example), or its owner has given you permission. Each time you press Run, you confirm that for the video you’re using.
